Hudson Valley Garlic Festival 2014

The Hudson Valley Garlic Festival  www.hvgf.org, was founded in 1989 by Pat Reppert of Shale Hill farm and Herb Gardens.  the purpose was to expose the public to his garlic growing enterprise.  Today the event has turned into a family affair for all walks of life.  The festival grounds are located in historic Saugerties NY and  if you've never been to Saugerties definitely check it out.  I couldn't believe the amount of people that attended last year and found myself having to elbow my way through to each booth.  In the end it was well worth it, the aroma alone makes you forget everything else going on around you.  The best part of this festival is the garlic is from local area farms and not some big commercial growing operation.  If you haven't had the chance to experience local grown garlic you should, the difference in taste and aroma is amazing.  I also didn't realize how many varieties of garlic there are!

There is a less-pungent area devoted to artisinal products such as honey, pickles, soaps, artwork, handmade jewelry, and craft vendors.  Live music will provide a back drop for the event all through the day.

Many people don't know that garlic has serious medicinal properties that draw out toxins from your body.  In fact we discovered a real effective balm for my babies cough.  The mixture contains 8 cloves of garlic, 10 drops of lavender oil, and 1/4 cup of coconut oil as the vehicle.  Mix all the ingredients in a food processor for 3 minutes and you're done.  The balm should be rubbed (and on the chest if are ok with the smell) into the feet up to 8 times per day, if needed.  Why the feet you ask?  The feet are known to release toxins from our body and one of the best avenues.  We couldn't believe how it actually stopped her cough.
